Foundations Waste

Exocet Software (198?). Programmed by Erroll Elleston and Martin Bysh. Graphics by A. Tompkins. Music by W. Beben.

A good name for a game, and not a bad game to boot. It's a straight forward vertical shoot'em up, with attractive graphics and wonderful chip tune played during the game, although this comes at the expense of sound effects unfortunately. You'll want to keep it playing as well as the sound effects if you do choose them over the music, are very lack lustre. It's very reminscent of Xevious, and Sidewinder, and the latter game and this share a lot in common, though I would suggest Sidewinder is the better game. Yet again, as with the rest of its ilk it's a case of learning the locations of enemies or the layout of enemy waves and being in position to blast them as soon possible. Your ship is a little large and slow, which makes manouvring difficult. There are power ups to help, such as side shooting guns or lasers. It, as is usual with these games, is hard to start off with and it can also be very unforgiving, the slightest scrape of a enemy bullet will vapourise you. Practise though, brings rich rewards, and you'll find yourself progressing further with each go. This is a good game and well recommended for fans of the genre.
