Hyperdrome Exocet 1988. Programmed by M. J. Bush and M. A. Hamilton. Graphics by G. P. Felix. Music by W. Beben
A stunningly bland horizontal shoot 'em up this one. It's so stunningly mediocre I nearly fell asleep after half a levels play. As usual the idea is progress through a series of levels, shooting lots of enemies and not being shot. There is little here to distinguish this game from about a thousand others of its ilk. There is some scenery that sometimes you have to dodge and some occasional holes in the background which show off some limited parallax scrolling. The rest of the graphics, however, are distinctly bland and uninspiring. The enemies are small and dissapointingly generic and the colour use throughout the game is, well, distinctly uncolourful. Some of the gun turrets in the game are exactly the same colour as the back ground, which until you realise this, seems to result in you getting shot by the scenery quite regularly. Your ship itself seems to have some sort of demented fuel injection problem and continually wobbles. In addition to this it appears to be some sort of flying fuel tanker. I'm not sure it was the ideal space ship for this game's hero to take into battle really. Of all the famous space ships in media history, a flying lorry is not exactly going to be in the top ten. It is even less glamourous than the flying Whinnebago from Spaceballs. Particularly a flying lorry with the most pathetic fire rate of any space ship ever. Well I suppose the best I can say about this game is that it's the ST equivalent of spam. Edible, but hardly going to delight Gordon Ramsey. Zogging Hell Rating: 5/10 Cheats
