Mission Elevator

First impressions of this game aren't great, a slightly ropey title screen is shortly followed by a even more threadbare tickatape print out briefly detailing your mission. After entering your name you end in quite a pretty platformer, vaguely reminscent of Spy Vs Spy or Hero. Now I must admit I didn't get very far in this game, so I can't be too harsh in my judgement. Not that I'd need to be really. The sprites and backgrounds are pretty well drawn if somewhat lacking in frames of animation and the sound is functional but not too intrusive. Pushing up or up and diagonal on the joystick makes you jump. Pulling down causes you to duck and fire shoots your weapon at one of the annoying regenerating enemy agents wandering about. Pushing down and diagonal causes you to examine an object and there are various bits and bobs to find hidden in the many bits of household decor hanging around. Annoyingly you need to use down and diagonal to change direction when you duck and want to shoot someone behind you, which can cause you to examine things when you didn't want to. It doesn't stop you turning fortunately, but it's just another reason why you wish Atari had designed the ST to operate another fire button. Scattered about the level are various elevators which allow you to progress vertically up the building, getting on the elevators can be a tad painful as they are usually occupied by an enemy agent, so you have to kill him and quickly leap in. Unfortunately I didn't have the manual to this one, so the exact object of the game wasn't clear so I can't give it a full review. It did seem like it might be a good little game though, although it may possibly be a tad hard, even with the large amounts of lives you initially start with.
