Slap Fight

With a name like Slap Fight you'd at least be expecting a joystick waggling boxing game if not the latest all singing all dancing sideways scrolling beat'em up. Er no despite its best attempts to mislead us the first moment you get into the game proper you realise your in yet another vertical scrolling shoot'em up (yawn). Slap Fight offers very little out of the ordinary with the usual array of power ups on offer, the speed up of which is helpful as when you begin playing the game it feels like your ship is swimming in toffee. The graphics are fairly pretty, but the sound effects are terrible, extremely minimalist, with rather puny blinks and burbles coming from your speaker when you shoot something. Changing to music improves things slightly but not much. There's so little new here it can only be recommended to fans of the genre.
