Probe/Capcom 1987

A bit more like it on the shoot'em up stakes, but not exactly the finest shoot'em up conversion ever. Capcom's classic arcade game ended up in the hands of Probe, not the best start, but they've just about managed to pull off a draw from the hands of defeat. The graphics haven't exactly been drawn by an expert, but most of the game seems to have survived intact, super enemy planes and stupid power ups included. Everything moves smootly and the game is fairly playable, which is a nice change. It has a silly end of level feature from the arcade, so not entirely Probe's fault, wherein you have to destroy the end of level baddy before he gets off the screen. If not you have to replay the level again. Very annoying. The sound effects while chip based are passable and a jolly ditty tinkles along in the background without making you want to reach for the volume control. Not bad, but could have done better.
