Nine Lives

One of the games that a lot of new STE owners would have got with their shiny new computers in the Discovery Xtra pack. They might have had to ponder why this is the case though, as Nine Lives is the sort of average game that no-one really remembers. It sits comfortably in the cutesy platform slot, and looks reasonably pretty. Though not STE enhanced, which the sampled tune at the beginning almost fools you into thinking for a second it might be. But it soon turns back into the normal ST soundchip nonsense. You then don't even get any scrolling to show off your new STE's features. No, it's a terrible flip screen affair. Not to mention 9 Lives tedious gameplay.
In fact the only enchanting bit about 9 Lives is the part where the cat (who the player controls) picks up a cigarette (or maybe even a joint), and takes a few haughty puffs, before turning green. Seeing 9 Lives is bland to the point of criminality, it seems unsuprising that the cat has developed a smoking addiction, it's probably the only excitement he gets....
