Laser
Squad
If I said to you that Laser Squad was a strategy game and that I'd like you to play it; a lot, if not most of you would politely make your excuses and then leg it. But you'd be wrong, Laser Squad does not involve elfs or orcs, and it does not involve a complex and hideously exact representation of the frankly dull American Civil War. Laser Squad is a sci-fi blaster, and plays more like a board game such as Space Crusade than a Games Workshop spec-fest. It's turn based during which you have a certain amount of movement points to do things. You start the game by equiping yorself with guns and mines and suchlike. Usually if your on easy level, it means equiping the entire team with rocket lauchers and heavy machine guns. On hard level, you'll be lucky to end up with a pistol, a knife, a copy of cub scout monthly and a large inflatable banana to share between all your team. Fighting is tense, you never know where opponent is. Well yes you do, he's behind you, with a rocket laucher aimed in your general direction. You have to be careful or you'll end up with your team facing the enemy without enough action points to move. The scenery is interesting if hardly beautiful, and the whole game looks a bit 8-bit, but perhaps this is why it works so well. Whether it's zapping high tech droids on some distant planet, or blasting corporation guards on a moonbase, Laser Squad is fun through and through. Forget what you know about strategy games, because this one really is fun. Zogging Hell Rating: 91%
