Lombard
RAC Rally (Mandarin Software 1988)
Surprisingly
good game from the publishers of STOS (Which was more well known for being
used to create bad games!), in fact a bit of a ground breaker. As one
of the first games to view you actually driving from inside the car, and
a good one at that, Lombard spawned all sorts of clones, most notably
Fast Lane and Test Drive. Lombard RAC Rally may look like 'Yeh well O.K.
the cab looks nice but look at the horrific track graphics, PPAARRP!'.
It might not be Vroomm but the graphics aren't all that bad when your
moving, and you soon forget about it when you realise what an excellent
and realistic game this is. The handling is excellent, some of the best
you'll find on the ST and there are plenty of tracks to try it out on.
The celebrity quiz part though is utter tosh. No excuses. This however
fails to detract one bit from an entralling racer.

Cheats
Pressing the
[ESCAPE] key stops the race and the clock, and so long as you stop it
before the first time place, you receive the top prize! With your prize
money save up to 750 Pounds. This enables you to buy a 2.8 litre engine
at 400 Pounds, four-wheel drive at 250 Pounds, front lights at 50 Pounds
and fog lights at 50 Pounds. With all these extras you can enter the full
rally and win. However, if you can't, the [ESCAPE] key still works.
