Cabal (Ocean 1989)

Ah now Cabal, my enfeebled mind recalls spending about £15 on the arcade machine at some leisure centre in the late 80's. My mate and I spent ages on it, and although we were both crap (The 15 squid got us to level 2) we suffered withdrawl symptoms when we were dragged away by our parents. The computer game isn't quite as addictive though. It's a bit like Operation Wolf in that you have to gun down lots of johnny foreigners probably from the middle east, a part of the world, which, according to the gaming community in the late eighties was populated entirely by lunatics and vast armies waiting to destroy the West (though admittedly there is a small amount of truth to this, after recent events), the only difference is that rather than from view the action from the first person perspective, you see them from a third person perspective (whatever happened to a second person perspective?). The graphics are a bit primitive in places, as is the sound. The control method also is cack with pulling down on the joystick firing off grenades. As you well know, in these sort of games you also need to pull down and shoot bullets, this can only lead to tears as your last grenade goes flying at a man you have already killed. The two player mode still remains a lot of fun however and Cabal is a great little game. I still can't get past the second level however.

Zogging Hell Rating: 82%

Cheats

Type 'SCHLIKA' during gameplay. The border should flash and F2 should now finish the level.
