Overlander

Probably the definitive ST shoot and drive game (much better than Road Blaster's), and quite easily the best driving game of 1988. This and Space Harrier are the finest moments of early ST gaming and a triumph for Elite, the programming outfit behind both of them. Overlander excells with its smooth speed and glossy visuals. It drips class from the pointless but amusing controllable star field on the title screen to the power up selection screen. Overlander is so fast it makes your eyes water, no 16bit racer comes anywhere near the speeds reached as your car roars along (take note Chase HQ, this game really is fast). The only possible fault is the lack lustre end sequence with its mis-spelt sentence. Some of the ST games look like relics nowadays, Overlander thankfully isn't one of them.
Er we apologise for the lack of any screenshots of Overlander in action, unfortuantly the Winston version (which we use to get screenshots) crashes as soon as the actual game gets going!
