Nintendo 64 Games1080 Snowboarding Review Pending Banjo Kazooie Incredibly frustrating but addictive 3D platformer, shamelessly ripped off by the twatty and rubbish Crash Bandicoot on the Ploystation. Lush 3D worlds and amusing cartoon like graphics combine with some tedious music to produce a game of annoying 'one more go-ness'. Pretty good stuff, but the later levels will have you tearing your hair out. Zogging Hell Rating: 8/10 Extreme G Unbelievably fast 3D bike racer. It'll give you a migraine and make you blind if you play it much but it has to be seen to be believed. Its pretty uncontrollable and the bikes weapons are next to useless. The tracks are amazing however. Hhhmmm mediocre. Zogging Hell Rating: 7/10 Fighter's Destiny Probably the N64's best attempt at the one on one beat em up genre and seeing as so few have been produced it isn't really that suprising. Its flawed and I finished it (on all levels) within 4 hours of playing it. Its alright, better looking than the early Tekkens, Virtua Fighter and Fight for Life, but doesn't have the same addictiveness of the aforementioned. Average. Zogging Hell Rating: 7/10 Fifa 98 Reasonably good soccer simulation. The graphics are good (the Ploystation hasn't even reached this level on Fifa 2000) but the gameplay is slightly lacking. The players don't have any real feel of solidness, its far to easy to score in certain positions and the computer can get the ball off you without tackling. Zogging Hell Rating: 8/10 F- Zero
X Brilliant Racer, with staggeringly fast graphics. It has a deliberately retro look, but the sparser graphics make it much easier to see whats going on (unlike Extreme G) as you hurtle along at outrageous speeds. As a one player game its fantastic, as multiplayer racer its un-toppable. The tracks are all great fun and well designed and there are plenty of weird and wonderful cars to choose from. The best racer on any platform in my opinion. Zogging Hell Rating: 9/10 F1 Grand Prix Incredibly realistic F1 game. Perhaps a bit to realistic for those who just like zooming about (like me) but really the best you can buy if your a Formula 1 geek. The graphics are unsurpassed on the N64, though they do slow a bit in places. Zogging Hell Rating: 8/10 F1 Pole Position Utterly rubbish F1 game. The first to be released for the N64 and unfortuantly showing the lack of knowledge behind its programming. The tracks are all there, but the car handles like a pig using the analogue stick. It looks ugly as well by N64 standards (though Ploystation owners would probably think the graphics were brilliant). Naff, Avoid. Zogging Hell Rating: 5/10 Goldeneye
007 Zogging Hell Rating: 10/10 ISS 64
The best multi- player football game on any format, brill for beginners and veterans alike. The commentry is unintentionally hilarious. One player is good though not quite as good as the sequels. Zogging Hell Rating: 9/10 ISS 98
The best alround footy game money can buy. Miles better than the competition. The one player mode is only let down by the difficulty in scoring stakes at the higher levels. The multi- player is as good as ISS 64. If you like football games this is No 1. The graphics are a thing of beauty. The commentry is still rubbish (only now its Tony Gubba being rubbish and announcing that "surely that was a penalty" in the middle of the field). Spot on. Hold on I've lost the ability to speak in sentences. Zogging Hell Rating: 9/10 Jet Force Gemini Recieved great reviews upon its release, with even Digitiser saying it was the game of 1999. Being a game by Rare though you'd expect slightly biased reviews from the Nintendo faithful. Jet Force Gemini can best be described as Zelda (or more liklely Banjo Kaazooie) with guns. It shows promise but the enemies are boring, the weapons limited and the 3D camera is a nightmare. Although you would have thought Rare would have learnt the lessons from the dodgy camera in Banjo, they somehow have made it even worse in Jet Force. Lets face it the only game ever to get 3rd person 3D right is Zelda, and frankly Jet Force is not in the same league. Average at best depite generally excellent graphics and sounds and a hilarious dog character. Zogging Hell Rating: 8/10 Lylat Wars A thing of beauty to look at but slightly lacking in amusement in one player mode. The multi- player mode is best not mentioned. Your ship is piloted in most cases along a fixed route which can be annoying, though the dogfight levels are excellent. I still prefer Cybermorph on the Jag as far as 3D space ship milarkies go. Zogging Hell Rating: 7/10 Quake
2 Excellent though a bit dated in one player mode. The Deathmatch mode is almost up to Bond levels. The graphics are every bit as good as the PC version. Big weapons and Big destruction. Good but not quite Bond. Zogging Hell Rating: 9/10 Mario Kart 64 Conversion of the SNES favourite. Single players a bit dull but the multi players just what you'd expect, top fun. The tracks are inspired and control good. Zogging Hell Rating: 8/10 (probably more but I can't stand Mario) Perfect
Dark The long awaited sequel to Goldeneye and what a scorcher it is too. Much improved graphics and an unbeatable multiplayer game where up to 8 simulants and four human players can take part. The plot line's a bit crap and the game degrades slightly when the X-Files type aliens start getting involved. Ultimately its absolutely brilliant, though the single player maybe isn't as good as Goldeneye. Zogging Hell Rating: 9/10 Rogue Squadron Probably the best Star Wars space ship game since the arcade original of the eighties. Bloody impossible on the later levels, and far to much of the game involves protecting convoys and saving people for general enjoyment. The graphics are impressive and as to be expected the sound is superb. Almost brilliant but not quite. Zogging Hell Rating: 8/10 Star Wars Episode 1: Racer Undeniably handsome and fun racing game. Detailed background graphics and fairly good controls deliver a pretty amusing title. It lacks a certain something though... Zogging Hell Rating: 8/10 The World Is Not Enough Although a blatant Goldeneye rip off from EA, TWINE is not half as bad as EA's last effort at the Bond franchise (Tommorrow Never Dies left Ploystation with a distinct inferiority complex next to Goldeneye). The game nicks its controls, weapons, in fact everything from Rare's Goldeneye and blatantly EA have gone along the lines of if you can't beat them, ape them. The graphics are typical EA fair, i.e. they are well texture mapped and pretty. They also reek of Ploystation conversion, i.e. lack of realistic movement, crap enemy A.I. and sparse furniture. The weapons aren't such a joy to wield as in Goldeneye or Perfect Dark and have no weight to them. It's a step in the right direction but up against some of the heavy weights of the first person shooter world, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Turok 2 and Quake 2, its a bland mid table number. Zogging Hell Rating: 8/10 Top Gear Rally 64 bit version of another SNES favourite. Not as good as Sega Rally, but still a good laugh. Considerably easier to get to grips with than the infuriating V- Rally 99. Zogging Hell Rating: 8/10 Turok
2 First impressions of this first person shooter is that its outstanding. But the levels are too large and after the first couple it becomes a bit tedious. The graphics are the best on the N64 but suffer intense slowdown on crowded screens. The monsters are great and their deaths pretty gory. Ammunition is far to scarce. Multi player is alright but nothing special. As a showpiece it's unsurpassed, but not quite so good after you've played it for a while. The large levels make it unlikely that you'll play it to much. Worth getting despite the niggles. Zogging Hell Rating: 9/10 V- Rally Good rally game, though you really have to practice to get the results out of your far to realistic responsive car. The tracks are varied and interesting enough though not mind blowing. Reasonable but not exceptional Zogging Hell Rating: 8/10 WCW vs
NWO Revenge As good as fighting games get on the N64. Its a little slow, but the graphics deliver the body crushing moves as realistically as they could be (you can actually wince at some of the moves). The availability of weapons adds a new dimension to the fighting (and the pain, the fighters get covered in blood after a good bashing). I know wrestling's very tacky, but this is excellent. Zogging Hell Rating: 8/10 Zelda
'The Ocarina of Time' Incredible 3D adventure, everything the hype made it out to be. Beautiful graphics and sound, involving plot and puzzles. Great small touches like the sun setting and your horse snorting. Characters you almost feel for. Get this along with Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and F- Zero. Zogging Hell Rating: 10/10
