History

The Atari Lynx was the first colour hand held games console, graphically and sonically it was streaks ahead of the main competition (the Gameboy and Sega Gamegear). But once again Atari's lack of marketing, a lack of groundbreaking games and the problems with battery length, did for Atari's wonder console. Anyone seeing similarities with the story of the Jaguar, Falcon et all? Also the Lynx screen although good quality is a bit of an oddity, and looks amazingly foggy in the photographs, and sometimes foggy in real life as well, so it the pictures of games like Shadow of the Beast looked, er, crap in magazines. No problems in out review section though as the shots are all from emulators and therefore reflection free. Technically the Lynx was probably still the most powerful hand held that had been released until the launch of the Gameboy Advance (PC Engine handheld excepted). Basically it's got the gaming power of an Atari ST, not something to be sniffed at.

Specs

16 Colours on screen from a pallette of 4096 colours.
Four Channel sound (Not 32 bit as Atari attempted to blag on the box), but four eight bit channels (cunning eh!). 16 Mhz Clock Speed
